Christopher Shatagin Sports Foundation

Mission Statement

The Christopher Shatagin Sports Foundation is a not-for-profit organization created in 2002 with a two-fold mission:

  • The first goal of the foundation is to provide fun and recreation for young people who might not otherwise have such opportunities.
  • The second goal is to alert families who may have adopted a child from Asia in the 1970's to a potential health risk, Hepatitis B.
Background Information

Christopher Shatagin had undiagnosed Hepatitis B from birth, a condition which suddenly took his life in 2002.

Babies are routinely tested now, but the test was unavailable when Christopher was adopted from Korea. So, if you are or know a young adult born in Asia who has not been tested, please heed this alert and ask a doctor about a simple blood test.

Christopher had a life-long interest in playing and teaching sports. Therefore his family and friends felt it would be fitting to create a foundation which would benefit others in his name.
